I’m very happy to announce that Protest in Peace has won the NiTH Protest Pro Test Award. I’ve had a bit of a break from short stories whilst trying to finish editing my novel, but the theme of this one was too tempting for me to ignore!
We were tasked to write a short story that showed victory through protest (peaceful or otherwise), and a haunting image immediately lodged itself in my brain. I was up against two great writers on the shortlist (Lydia Trethewey and Joey To) and, if you haven’t already, I highly recommend reading their stories (link below).
From the judges:
“An interesting story and fantastic interpretation of the brief. The writing style matched the story well- in particular the way you progressed through some events quickly and dwelled over other moments with vivid description suited the feelings of insanity and lingering doubt that Michael felt.”
The next NiTH competition looks to be interesting one too. I have less than two weeks in which to get my finished manuscript out to beta readers, so the next couple of weeks could be a delicate balancing act!
